The chronological resume is structurally formatted and it generally list the job history for the first time.

This type of resume is ideal when you apply a position in the old, traditional profession. They are especially used in legal and academic professions.
Functional resume directs attention to your skills, rather than your work experience. You can choose it if you large gaps in your course of employment.
What is important here is that, you need to choose the resume format that is closely relevant with your job and career and it is also important to that your employer should be able to receive good attention and must select you for a position.
